Douglas Fir
The Douglas Fir tree, Pseudotsuga menziessi glauca, is a splendid pyramidal evergreen. It has many common names such as, Interior fir, Rocky Mountain, Douglas-fir, Douglas, yellow or red spruce, Oregon pine,and Douglastree. Douglas Fir trees have dark green or blueish green needles. It is a rapid growing hardy tree that grows well in a variety of soils. This conifer tree is a beautiful Christmas tree or a picturesque ornamental tree. It is used as a windbreak tree and it can also be sheared as a hedge.

Cinnamon Fern
Cinnamon ferns occurs in moist, boggy ground along streams and on shaded ledges and bluffs. Typically grows in clumps to 2-3' tall, but with constant moisture can reach 5' in height. Separate spore-bearing, stiff, fertile fronds appear in early spring, quickly turning brown. The familiar "fiddleheads" also emerge from the base of the plant and unfurl into large, erect, pinnately-compound, yellowish-green, sterile fronds (2-4' long) which remain attractive throughout the summer and turn yellow in autumn. The common name of this plant is in reference to the cinnamon colored fibers found near the frond bases. Osmunda fiber used in the potting of orchids comes from the roots of these ferns.

Silverbell
The Carolina Silverbell tree, Halesia carolina, also known as Mountain Silverbell, Snowdrop tree, and Oppossum Wood, is common and reaches its greatest size in the southern Appalachian Mountains where it is called mountain silverbell. This attractive shrub, or small tree, grows in moist soils along streams in the understory of hardwood forests. It has a moderate growth rate and lives about 100 years. Place in full sun to partial shade. This deciduous tree has soft wood and it is close-grained and a favorite wood for crafts. The white bell-shaped flowers and small size make it a desirable tree for landscaping. The seeds are eaten by squirrels and the flowers provide honey for bees. Fall color is chartreuse to yellow-brown. Silverbell trees exhibit pendulous bell-shaped white flowers in spring.

Loblolly Pine
The Loblolly Pine tree, Pinus taeda, is a fast-growing member of the yellow pine group. It is also called yellow pine, North Carolina pine, and oldfield pine and is the most commercially important forest species in the southern United States. Loblolly Pine trees can grow up to 100 feet tall and up to three feet in diameter; however, along the coast they seldom rise more than 50 feet. This evergreen conifer has pine needles that are 6 to 9 inches long. The Loblolly Pine is a stately tree and is often chosen to use for convenient landscape screening. In urban areas, stands of loblolly pines are used as wind and noise barriers. It is particularly prized for its straight trunk, which contains no knots for up to 30 feet. It thrives in a variety of soils, including well-drained upland areas with poor nutrient concentrations to poorly drained lowland areas and abandoned fields.

Weigela - Red
The Red Weigela, Weigela Vaniceki, is a deciduous shrub with dark red flowers. It is a full sized plant with good hardiness. It grows best in full sun to partial sun. Foliage is deep, purple-tinted green and forms a compact mound, reaching 6' when mature. Prefers well-drained soil. Prune older branches after they finish blooming.
