Dwarf Red Buckeye
The Dwarf Red Buckeye tree, Aesculus pavia, is one of the first plants in the woodland to reawaken in spring. The Red Buckeye trees starts sending out tender new leaves as early as February, up to a month before the surrounding oaks and maples show any sign of renewed life. Red buckeye?s lavish carmine flowers come early, too, and are an important source of food for hummingbirds in the months before most other plants are in flower. This deciduous tree is a wonderful little tree to plant at the edge of a woodland garden, near a patio, or as the focal point at the curve of a path. It is especially pretty when underplanted with early spring wildflowers. Its large, drooping, dark green leaves provide plenty of interest throughout the growing season. The lush foliage also provides excellent cover for songbirds. Red buckeye should be recommended to all impatient gardeners, because it brings instant gratification: It starts blooming when it is just 3 feet tall. It is known for its deep crimson flowers borne in early summer. It is easy to grow.

Lilac - Persian
The Persian Lilac, Syringa x persica, is a spreading, graceful shrub with arching branches, reaching 4 to 8 feet in height, 5 to 10 feet spread. This deciduous shrub has dark green foliage. The pale lilac flowers are fragrant, late spring blooming, abundantly produced on 2 to 3 inch long panicles. A reasonably compact lilac for the smaller garden, and shrub border. Introduced 1614.

Bing
The Bing Cherry is one of the finest commercial sweet cherries and it is the most famous sweet cherry variety. It produces a very large, delicious cherry that ranges in color from a deep garnet to almost black. The skin is smooth and glossy and the flesh firm and sweet. Bing cherries are good for cooking as well as out-of-hand eating. The flesh is very solid, reddish-purple in color, and is flavorful and juicy. The Bing Cherry tree requires cross-pollination to produce fruit.

Black Walnut
The Black Walnut tree, Juglans nigra, is prized for its wood and shade. Black Walnut trees are a large, moderately growing, majestic tree. This deciduous tree makes a wonderful shade tree, and when planted for a wood plantation, makes a great long-term investment. This tree has moderate water requirements and is tolerant to drought. It has massive, upright spreading, open branches. The nuts are large and plump and crack out of the shell easily. The roots of the black walnut produce a substance known as juglone (5-hydroxy-alpha-napthaquinone). This biochemical is toxic to many plants such as the tomato, potato, black and blue berries, and other plants that may grow within a 50 to 60 foot radius of the trunk. Not all plants are sensitive to juglone and many trees, vines, shrubs, and flowers will thrive in close proximity to a Black Walnut tree.

Liriope
Liriope, also commonly called border grass is not actually a grass but a member of the lily family, a fact that inspires another of its common names, lilyturf. The dark green, ribbonlike foliage grows in length from 12 to 18 in and then recurves toward the ground to form rounded clumps. As the clumps mature they merge into a continuous carpet that resembles a plot of shaggy lawn grass. In summer, spikes of small purple, violet or white flowers rise from the center of clumps. Flowers are followed by pea-sized black or white berries in autumn. Liriope spreads quite fast in reasonable soil, creating a substantial tuberous root mass.This plant is a true survivor and will grow almost anywhere.
