Dwarf Hosta ('little wonder')

Juniper in a Rock-Large (Juniper Procumbens "nana")
We grow the Juniper in lava-rock (pumice stone) by boring a hole in the rock and sawing flat the bottom of the stone. Since the lava-rock is pourous the rock serves the same purpose as the bonsai pot. When we think of a traditional bonsai and what it should look like we think of a Juniper procumbens. Willow Leaf Ficus (ficus nerifolia/salicafolia)

San Jose Juniper-36"x32"x30" (j. chinensis 'san jose')
Extremely versitile evergreen with stiff irregular branching habit makes this an excellent choice for bonsai. Dense form with thick heavy interesting trunk. Very slow grower with deep sage green leaves. Has both scale-like and awl-like leaves. Do not shear, cut back and thin to shape. Low to moderate watering requirements. Cotoneaster (Cotoneaster Microphylla)
The evergreen cotoneasters are easy-to-care-for trees whose small white flowers, appearing in early spring, are followed by tiny red berries that often cling to the branches well into the winter months. Can withstand a light frost but should be brought in for the winter months.
